Only Light to Moderate Exercise While On The Smoothie Shakedown

Good Morning everyone! As you know, I'm 4 days into week 2 of the Smoothie Shakedown. I haven't lost any weight since Wednesday. I made the mistake of exercising too hard this week. I asked the staff on the Smoothie Shakedown forum what could be causing this halt and here is what they had to say ...

"Given the accelerated nature of the Smoothie Shakedown, only light to moderate exercise is recommended - SS is not designed to support activity/workout levels that are strenuous in nature. With the 1-hour daily workouts you've reported, you may actually have sent your body into "starvation mode"... meaning it has become extraordinarily efficient at making the most of the limited calories it does get. It protects fat stores and instead uses lean tissue to provide it with some of the calories it needs to keep functioning properly. This in turn lowers your metabolic rate so that your body needs fewer calories to function which results in weight loss slow-down.

I'd advise you, while following the Shakdeown, to cut back on your workouts so that you're engaging in only 1/2 hour of mild to mildly moderate activity. If you're going to continue your current routine, keep your body nourished by including a third smoothie each day.

Lastly... 9.4 POUNDS DOWN IN 10 DAYS?!?! WOW!! This is super!! Take a moment to think about this. Consider your expectations for your rate of loss - are they possibly overly optimistic? Try to relax about how much is coming off and how fast (or slow) that it's happening; stressing about it is counterproductive (stress releases cortisol which causes weight-loss slowdown)."

Fat Flush Smoothie Recipe

For those of you who aren't familiar with Ann Louise Gittleman's Fat Flush Smoothies, here is the recipe ...

Ingredients:

7 oz. Water
1 Cup Fruit (frozen fruit will make a thicker smoothie)
1 tbs. Flaxseed Oil
1 Scoop Fat Flush Body Protein Powder (from UniKeyHealth.com)
1 Cup Whole Flaxseeds or Chia Seeds (optional)
Ice (optional)

Blend all ingredients in a blender on high for about 20 seconds. I actually have a Smoothie Setting on my blender. I use the Black & Decker Cyclone Blender (only $25 at Walmart).

I personally don't add Flaxseeds or Chia seeds but I think they provide extra fiber to keep you full longer.

Check back at 2:30 pm today for my Week 1 Weigh In Results!

'Til then ... God Bless, Jessi :D

How It's Been Going

Hey everyone! Thanks for checking out my blog! I have been on the Smoothie Shakedown for 5 days now. I have so much more energy! I don't have hunger pangs between meals and I don't have cravings anymore, I love it! I even see a positive change in my mood even though it's that time of the month lol. I'll be doing my Week 1 Weigh-In on Wednesday. I'm so anxious to share my results. Well,'til then ...
God Bless, Jessi :D

Smoothie Shakedown Day 1

I started the official Smoothie Shakedown Wednesday (June 2nd). You can purchase the supplements and Fat Flush Body Protein Powder on UniKeyHealth.com It's so worth it! I had bought a different protein powder to save money and it didn't do anything for my hunger. I was very hungry after having the smoothies and even gained 2 pounds! The Fat Flush Body Protein is supposed to fill you up for at least 4 hours. I'm so excited because I feel confident that I will lose weight on this plan. I'm having a smoothie for breakfast and a smoothie for lunch. Then for dinner, I'll have lean meat (chicken or fish) and lots of healthy veggies. I'm taking the Fat Flush supplements as well. I make all of my smoothies with mixed berries. I've tried many other fruits but none of them tasted very good. But anyways, the smoothies taste delicious and fill me up for a long time!

Here are my stats coming into this thing ...

My Start Weight : 205.4 Pounds
Body Fat Percentage : 51%
BMI : 36

Body mass index (BMI) is measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to both adult men and women.

BMI Categories:

•Normal weight = 18.5 - 24.9
•Overweight = 25 - 29.9
•Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater

I am only 24 years old and 5' 3". I am obese and in danger of developing Type 2 Diabetes. I have made this committment to lose the weight the old-fashioned way and most natural and healthy way... with Diet and Exercise! I'll be walking between 30 minutes to an hour each day.
I have a lot of weight to lose... So far, I've lost 30 pounds, just by taking my thyroid pills. I've managed to keep it off for a year! Go Me! I need to lose 70 more! So, my goal for this first week is 5 pounds. I'll be weighing myself every Thursday at the same time. I read that it's best to weigh yourself at the same time each time to get the most accurate reading.
Oh yeah, just so you know... I have cut out soda, juice, and alcohol from my diet! I wanted to eliminate the unnecessary sugar... and of course, liver-damaging alcohol.
I'm gonna go walk to the park now with my 5 year old son for my daily exercise. Talk to ya soon!

Solid Food Hype

I've noticed something kinda strange ... since I've been drinking the smoothies, I haven't wanted solid foods as much. I don't even enjoy eating them as much as I used to. I snack on veggies a lot and enjoy them but meat just isn't as good to me. I wonder if anyone else on this plan feels the same way. I'm gonna hit up the message board to find out. That's all for now. Love and Blessings,Jessi :D

My Weight Loss Progress

You should probably know a little more about my weight history...
Growing up, I was thin. I thought I looked great! I always ate whatever I wanted - a lot of times - fatty, greasy foods. But I kept physically active! But I started gaining about 7 pounds a year, beginning in junior high. By the time I got pregnant, I was 155 pounds. That's considered 20 pounds overweight in my case. After the birth of my son, I kept gaining. I would eat take out a lot! I also stopped working out. Little did I know, I had an underactive thyroid that was going untreated. I was gaining weight rapidly. By the beginning of 2008, I was 235 lb! - my highest weight ever! I felt disgusting! My ankles would swell up and I would sweat all the time, even when everyone else was cold! At my annual physical, my doctor tested my thyroid levels, they were low and I was put on medication. Within the first month, I lost 30 pounds! I haven't lost any more weight from the medication, unfortunately. But I am so proud of myself for maintaining the loss after all this time! Go Me!

I found this cool progress ticker online. It keeps me confident and motivated!
I chose an image of newlyweds walking on a beach because my honey and I decided we weren't gonna get married until we're both in great shape. I love having that to look forward to! Even more motivation!

Weight Loss Is A Formula You Can Actually Calculate!

I learned from another blogger, weight loss is all about math formulas ...
Here is the formula to calculate BMR ...
9.99 x (weight kg) + 6.25 x (height cm) - 4.92 x (age) +5 if male or -161 if female
Here is the simple math equation ...
I am a 203 lb.(92.08 kg) woman, 5' 3"(160 cm) tall, and 24 years old.

[9.99 * 92.08 (wt kg) + 6.25 * 160 (ht cm) – [4.92 * 24 (age)] -161(female)
[919.88 + 1,000 - 118.08 - 161] = 1,640.8 BMI
My BMI = 1640.8
and since we don't sleep 24 hrs a day, we need to multiply the number by our active lifestyle ...
Activity Level Multiplier
Little to no exercise (sedentary) 1.2
Light exercise (1-3 times a week) 1.375
Moderate exercise (3-5 times a week) 1.55
Heavy exercise (6-7 times a week) 1.725
Extra heavy exercise (twice a day) 1.9

In my case, it's 1640.8 x 1.725 = 2,830 which is the number of calories I would need daily to maintain my 203 lb weight.
BUT I want to LOSE weight ...
Ok, so I know that my daily needs are 2,830 calories.
So then how do I lose weight?? How many calories do I need to cut back to lose 1 lb??
I learned 3,500 calories = 1 lb.

So, say I cut back 500 calories per day for 1 week... 500 calories x 7 days per week = 3500 which equal 1lb of weight loss.
But I don't want to lose 1 lb per week. I want to lose MORE!!
My diet is 1200 calories daily ...
so, that's cutting back 1,630 calories per day x 7 days per week = 11,410 calories per week
11,410 / 3,500 = 3.26 pounds lost per week. Still not enough for me! I wanna lose 5 lb per week!
I need to lose 70 lbs and if I lose 5 lbs per week, it'll take me 14 weeks to reach my goal!!
So, if I succeed every week, I will reach my goal of 133 lb. on Thursday, September 2!!
Now, let's look at exercise ...
I burn 600 calories on the treadmill in 1 hour, 6 times a week = 3,600 (1 lb)
if i consume 1200 calories then burn 600 calories, I'm left with 600 calories...
2,830 (calories needed daily to maintain weight)
2,230 (number of calories not consumed) x 7 days per week = 15,610 calories
15,610 / 3,500 = 4.46 lbs lost per week!! At this rate, I would reach my goal in about 16 weeks!! September 16!! About 4 months from now - not bad!
